The Ama Way - Expect the Unexpected

“It’s unique to find a heated pool on a river ship, but one with a swim-up bar to boot?”

That’s what Porthole Cruise Magazine expressed in their latest publication, dubbing AmaWaterways’ swim-up bar one of their “Favorite Bars at Sea”! And it’s true! Guests traveling on any of our newest ships in Europe can take a refreshing dip in the pool while ordering their favorite cocktail from the full- service swim-up bar or perhaps choosing from a selection of regional beers and wines – some coming directly from the countryside around you.

While some cruise lines offer the same wines every single day, when you travel on an AmaWaterways river cruise, the complimentary wines poured during lunch and dinner often come from the locales visited on the cruise, giving our guests yet another fun way to really get a taste of the countries visited. Whether you choose a light crisp Grüner Veltliner after a fun day exploring Dürnstein, or maybe a rich red Bordeaux Blend from the city of Bourg after our exclusive AmaWaterways Wine Festival hosted by city officials, wine tasting can be a daily adventure. Wine stewards are well versed in explaining the nuances and special stories that make each wine region so fascinating and memorable.

And speaking of adventures in taste, some afternoons our chefs can be found on the top deck serving up delicious ice cream confections to cool your palate and tantalize your taste buds. Sit back in our comfortable lounge chairs and let yourself be tempted by our staff serving complimentary yummy Apricot dumplings with Rüdesheimer Coffee on the Rhine or a special Austrian Spritzer on the Danube.

If you are more tempted by the savory rather than sweet side of life, guests can relax in the Main Lounge and find an assortment of light “Tapas.” From local cheeses with dried fruits and marinated grilled asparagus to sliced tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella drizzled with house-made pesto, there is always something to refresh and revive along the way.

These are only a few of the many reasons why “expecting the unexpected” is part of the Ama Way of making sure our guests always feel like part of our family.
