A native from Madrid, Spain, Abel holds a degree in Tourism Management. Before joining AmaWaterways, he has worked as a tour leader since 2002 in different European countries and is also a licensed local guide, showing off his hometown’s many notable sights. Abel is fluent English, Spanish and Portuguese and is conversational in French. A passionate adventure traveler, he has also volunteered for development NGOs in Africa. His interests include food and wine, diving and playing Brazilian Capoeira with friends.

Agnes was born in Hungary and studied to be a teacher at a University in Budapest, while also being a semi-professional traditional Hungarian dancer. She started working for Amawaterways as a local host in diverse locations in Europe and later became a Cruise Manager. Agnes is married, has two beautiful sons and a yellow Labrador dog. She has a passion for travelling, and especially loves Central Europe and the Far East.

I was born in a village by the sea on the North Central Coast of Vietnam. After four years of studying tourism, I decided to head south to Ho Chi Minh City to study English and started working as a tour guide in 2011. After four years of working as a tour guide and tour leader from South to North Vietnam, I was lucky enough to be hired in 2015 as one of the youngest tour guides ever for luxury cruises on the Mekong River. In 2017, I proudly joined AmaWaterways and became a Cruise Manager the following year. Today, I live in Ho Chi Minh City with my wife and daughter, where I enjoy playing with my little girl, reading books and traveling.

You might say I was born to work on the rivers – I grew up in a small town along the Danube close to Budapest. I have degrees in both English literature and linguistics and previously served as a tour guide. I truly love the great outdoors: kayaking, canoeing and biking. When I am not on board, I enjoy spending my time with my four kids.

I grew up in sunny Portugal, where I earned a law degree and a master’s degree in international human rights. I spent two years working with nonprofit organizations in Africa before returning to Portugal in 2013. There I began my career in hospitality, and today I am fortunate to travel the world with AmaWaterways. When I’m not traveling, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and loved ones.

I was born in sunny Montenegro on the Mediterranean coast, but I have lived in Serbia most of my life. I was lucky to be introduced to the English and Italian languages by my mother who enjoyed reading international magazines. Working for AmaWaterways checks off all my personal and professional boxes: I am traveling and working with so many creative and curious people, creating memorable life experiences. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family.

Born in the Alentejo Plains in sunny Southern Portugal, I decided to make the rest of my life the best of my life. I previously worked as a personal trainer and Wellness Host as far abroad as the Middle East. Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English, I am passionate about history and art and love to embark on exciting new adventures watching sunsets around the world.

As a youngster, Bernard grew up in a very remote part of the Caprivi in Namibia. After attending school for 12 years and graduating from college, he found work as a grounds man at a lodge. With drive and determination, Bernard worked his way up to become a guide and in 2011, he joined the crew aboard the Zambezi Queen. When he’s not inspiring guests in Africa, he enjoys reading history and the bible as well as fishing and discovering wildlife.

Bojan was born in Nis, Ex-Yugoslavia where he received his degree in hotel and tourism management. His love for tourism and travel blossomed when he started working as a tour guide in Egypt in 2004. Afterwards, he worked as a local guide, destination manager and an AmaWaterways local guide in Serbia. Becoming a cruise manager was the natural next step for him. Today, Bojan lives in Belgrade with his wife and two beautiful kids. In his free time he enjoys traveling with family and loves tennis, biking and hiking.

Born in Paris, I have spent the past 30 years living between the grand metropolises of London, New York, and Sydney. My former career as a professional singer and dancer brought me to destinations all around the world, which eventually led me to begin my AmaWaterways career in 2015. Today, my passion for history, French cuisine, and storytelling shapes every river cruise I lead with AmaWaterways!

Born in the small town of Guimarães, considered the cradle of the Portuguese nationality, I studied international relations before ascending to the skies as a flight attendant. Now I am happily working on the rivers. When I am not on board, I love listening to music and making flower arrangements.

Christian A. is from Düsseldorf, Germany, but considers Brazil his second home. During the winter season he stays in Brazil with his two children, Luan and Madana, and during the regular working season he lives in Germany. He started working for AmaWaterways 2009. In his spare time, Christian likes to read history, philosophy and literature, and he also enjoys many sports, particularly swimming (he competes in open water marathons in Brazil). He has traveled all around the world and speaks fluent German, English, Portuguese and Spanish, as well as French and Italian.

My life is one of diversity. I am originally from South Africa and have lived in Europe for the past nine years. I consider myself blessed to travel the world. I transitioned from professional sports to having a career in tourism, but my passion to serve others remains steadfast. I joined AmaWaterways in 2020; I speak, English, Afrikaans and Dutch; and I can tell you where to find all the best desserts in town.

I traveled far and wide early on in life: I was born on the Austro-Hungarian border and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona. My career has taken me on biking and hiking trips all over Europe, from Iceland to Italy and beyond. Now I look forward to sharing my love, passion and heritage with you – one river at a time!

Born with a passion for travel, history and nature, David earned fitting degrees in both Modern European History and Tourism Business Management from Ireland’s Limerick. He now has more than 20 years of experience in the industry. Though he has previously lived and worked in both Edinburgh and London, David now calls Salzburg home. When he’s not interacting with guests in English, German and Spanish, he can be found trekking, climbing or skiing in the Austrian Alps.

David is a native of Barcelona. He holds a University degree in Physiotherapy and a Master’s degree in Hotel Management. He started working in the Tourism and Hospitality industry 18 years ago, working in hotels, cruise ships and for tour operators. He then realized that was the career path he would follow, as he really enjoyed traveling and meeting people from around the world. He has visited more than 85 countries and lived or passed through Portugal, England, Germany and the Dominican Republic. He is fluent in Spanish, English, Italian and Portuguese, conversional in French and would like to improve his German. His hobbies are playing different sports, international gastronomy and traveling.

Argentina native Debbie Asayag de Albrecht holds a degree in Tourism and Hotel Management, and has been in the travel industry since 2001. Fluent in English and Spanish, and conversant in Portuguese and German, Debbie loves to dance and sing, and has been known to serenade our passengers! She's been with AmaWaterways since 2005 and currently lives in Ingolstadt, Germany.

As a little girl in Johannesburg, South Africa, I dreamed of one day traveling beyond my hometown. I eventually achieved this goal working as a bus hostess, and later as a registered tourist guide. As a proud AmaWaterways Tour Director, I love using my skills to create unforgettable experiences for our guests.

Dragan has a Serbian-Hungarian background and 16 years' experience in the hospitality industry. After finishing the Hotel Management School in Germany, he started cruising around the world on ocean-going vessels. Dragan joined AmaWaterways in 2010 and has been a Cruise Manager since 2011. A passionate traveler, he has visited 95 countries and is fluent in German, English and Serbian. He loves water skiing, diving and skiing in the Alps.

Born in the city of Reus just outside of Barcelona, Spain, I have felt a passion for travel since I was a child. Growing up my favorite toy was an atlas, and my love for plants and animals eventually led me to becoming a biologist. While working as a birdwatching guide, I realized that I could blend my love for biology and travel into one career, and today I am lucky enough to make this dream a reality with AmaWaterways!

Born and raised in Manchester, I moved to Barcelona at the age of 22 where I discovered a passion for wine, food and travel. When I´m not exploring the world of wine, you´ll find me with my wife and son in Barcelona, climbing the hills behind the city or snorkeling in the Mediterranean.

After studying Hospitality and Tourism, Frederico set sail to travel the world on cruise ships. He enjoys speaking with fellow travelers, sharing his enthusiasm for travel and is passionate about making sure guests return home with unforgettable memories. He enjoys biking, hiking and watching movies.

Helene is a native of Marseille, France where she lives now, after spending 6 years in Canada in the Hotel Industry, 8 years in the United-States in show business and years of travelling and cruising the world from the Arctic to the Antarctic. She holds a degree in Sociology and Journalism and is fluent in English and French, also conversant in Italian and she is currently focusing on mastering the Spanish language. She is passionate by her Provence where she enjoys hiking, nordic walking, dancing and Brazilian music.

Heloise was born and raised in the French part of Switzerland. Very early on she decided to see the world and found her passion in traveling. She lived abroad in the US, Vietnam and India and traveled through Central America before settling in the German capital of Berlin. After a few years, she decided to become a Cruise Manager for AmaWaterways. In her free time, she enjoys reading books, hiking, surfing, doing yoga, biking, running and meditation. She speaks fluently in French, German, English and Spanish.

Ioana grew up in Transylvania, where her room faced a 17th-century castle that was home to the local public library – a second home during her childhood. After earning her degree in International Relations, she spent seven years in the south of Italy. The first time Ioana experienced a river cruise was when she was hired to work at Reception. For six seasons, she worked her way up to become Cruise Manager. Ioana speaks Romanian, English, Italian and French and soon she will need a new room in her apartment for all the books she shelters.

I grew up in southern Romania at the base of the beautiful Bucegi Mountains, surrounded by natural wonders near the storied city of Brașov. Since I was a child, I have dreamed of traveling the world, and I am now lucky enough to follow a career that meets my personal passions. After experiencing memorable destinations like India and New Zealand, I began my career with AmaWaterways in 2022. In my free time, I love to hike in the mountains, garden, and teach yoga.

Born and raised by the mighty Danube River, I dreamed of one day sharing its treasures with others. I have worked passionately as a guide and sommelier in Serbia, a destination manager in Spain and a Cruise Manager on European rivers, allowing me to do what I enjoy most while speaking English, Spanish, Russian, German and ex-Yugoslav languages.

Born and raised in Novi Sad, Serbia, Jelena graduated from the University of Novi Sad in Tourism Management and holds a Master degree in Geography. She has worked in tourism for 8 the past years, after starting her career as a tourist guide. Jelena is fluent in English and many Balkan languages. She lives to travel, loves to read, enjoys working with people and spends her free time with family and friends.

John R. began his career in the travel industry not on Europe's rivers but mountains, looking after guests in ski resorts. In the three decades since then, John worked with motor coach tour operators, ski chalets and beach resorts before joining AmaWaterways in 2006. Fluent in English, Italian and French, the native of Britain is a skiing and diving enthusiast, and lives in Hungary.

Jonathan was born in London, England, and graduated in broadcast journalism. What followed was a 20-year career in television that took him around the world producing and directing travel features. During this time he devised and presented a monthly travel show. For many years he was also a guest expert at the Daily Mail Cruise Show as well as a regular contributor to BBC Radio London. In addition, Jonathan spent a year as a cruise director for a major American cruise line where he presented talks on Alaska, Central America, Northern Europe, Greenland, Canada, and the USA. He’s now truly delighted to be working with AMA Waterways as a cruise manager, and, when he’s not cruising the rivers of Europe, he enjoys cooking for friends, cycling, and keeping fit at the gym.

Hungarian-born Kata P. began her career as a tour guide in Budapest while earning her university degree in Tourism, Hotel and Catering. She has worked for AmaWaterways since 2008, and is fluent in English, Hungarian and German. Crediting travel as her "profession, hobby and recreation," Kata also enjoys tennis, ice skating and her Westie dog named Happy. She lives in Budapest.

Spending my formative years in the Blyde River Canyon of Kruger National Park, I have always been tickled by the culture, nature, and adventure around me. With an MBA and more than 20 years of guiding experience, I am committed to assuring guests’ safety while sharing my passion for the beauty of South Africa.

Born and raised in Serbia, based in Belgrade. Love for languages, people and travelling led her to a degree in Linguistics & Scandinavian languages, as well as to becoming a teacher and tour guide. She enjoys most showing the beauties of her homeland to different guests, but also helping AmaWaterways’ guests from around the world to create lifelong memories in Europe. She speaks Serbian and ex- Yugoslav languages, Norwegian, English, Spanish and French to varying degrees. She believes that meeting and connecting with people is the best value of any travel. When not working, she’s probably somewhere in the mountains hiking, or with a book.

Krisztian was born and raised in the adventurous land of Hungary, where he studied history at university and always loved traveling. He started working in the tourism industry more than 10 years ago as a local guide and international relations manager of his hometown. Afterwards, he proudly became a member of our Cruise Manager team. Krisztian is a dedicated bike rider since that is his favorite method of transportation when it comes to discovering the beauties of the world. When he’s not on board, he loves hiking, swimming and traveling with his family.

Now a resident in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Louis grew up in the rural Northern Rivers area of Australia. He quickly developed a passion for learning about people, places and cultures. With some formal studies in journalism and linguistics, he decided to move to Europe at a young age to begin a lifelong adventure. After brief careers in education and language software, Louis became a Cruise Manager so he can do what he loves: show people a good time in some of the most beautiful and fascinating places in Europe. Louis is fluent in English and Spanish, conversational in Italian and working on Portuguese, Galician and French. In his free time, he loves playing rugby, cooking and the arts.

I was born and raised near Cologne, Germany, where I still reside today with my wife. Though I began my career in banking, I decided to follow my passions for people and travel, which led me to the rivers with AmaWaterways. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and participating in outdoor activities.

Born and raised in Romania, Maddy holds a degree in Marketing and a master's degree in International Affairs. She started working in the river cruise industry in 2000 and joined AmaWaterways in 2007.

Born in the micro-state of Andorra, Marc holds a university degree in Economics. After working as a diplomat, his life took a full turn when he decided to leave everything behind to travel the world without knowing if he would ever come back home. An adventurer and explorer, he ended up working as a Tour Leader in South America and his beloved Africa, which he considers his second home. Apart from his main passion of traveling, Marc loves scuba diving and loud music. He is fluent in Spanish, French, Catalan and English.

Born and raised in Brazil, Marcia became an independent teenager at the age of 14 when she started working as an English and Spanish teacher at language schools in Sao Paulo. She also did some modelling jobs with one of the most famous modelling agencies in Brazil, Ford Models. Tired of teaching for so long and too shy to keep her modelling career, she decided to change her occupation into something where she could assist people, communicate, exchange and learn new cultures and travel. As soon as she finished her bachelor’s degree in Language and Literature in 2006, Marcia moved to Dubai and worked as a flight attendant for one of the most renowned airlines in the Middle East and perhaps the world. She then moved to Germany where she has lived since 2008. While in Germany, she not only learned German but also a new occupation and served as Global Marketing Manager for a warehouse management system company where she worked for the next 10 years. Since 2018, she has been a part of the team of Cruise Managers at AmaWaterways. Marcia is fluent in 4 languages: Portuguese, Spanish, English and German, and is conversational in Italian. Besides learning new languages and reading new books, which is Marcia´s real passion, she loves to spend her weekends at the golf course where she participates in golf tournaments. Marcia is also passionate about ballet and yoga and loves to travel.

Mariana was born in Argentina and now lives in Portugal. She has a degree in Hotel Management and previously worked on ocean liners. She loves traveling and getting to know new people and different cultures.

I was born and raised in the capital of Croatia: Zagreb. During my student years, while joining an educational excursion to Africa, I was introduced to tourism and later started working as a local guide. Traveling and geography are my passions and I also have Master’s degrees in both areas. Besides traveling, my hobbies are hiking, board games, pub quizzes with friends, cycling, reading and playing various sports.

Born in a small town in the countryside of Croatia, I always longed to travel the world. After graduation I started working in tourism, eventually joining the AmaWaterways team in 2022. I am a sports fanatic who loves to play soccer, and I also enjoy spending time outdoors hiking or bike riding.

Though I was born in the south of Romania, I have backpacked through Asia, lived in Kuala Lumpur and visited 72 countries while conversing in Romanian, English and Spanish! My tourism journey began in 2012 and I have since served as a tour leader, local guide and Cruise Manager.

Monika F. has cruised the rivers of Europe for several years now and finds it fulfills her passion for exploring new places, learning about different cultures and sharing her love of travel with other people. She spends her free time traveling and also enjoys photography, diving, sailing and seeking out new place to have a good meal.

Growing up in Belgrade, Serbia, I spent my childhood on the riverbanks of the “blue” Danube watching cruise ships pass by, dreaming of one day sailing with them. After finishing my degree in hospitality management and working within several luxury hotels, I joined the AmaWaterways crew in 2017. I am a travel afficionado, nature lover and a true sports fan who looks forward to leading travelers along Europe’s grand rivers every day.

Nicki was born in Manchester where he studied Hospitality and Business Management and found his passion for wine and gastronomy. After running hotels and restaurants, he decided to focus on wine and moved to Ribera del Duero, one of Spain’s most prestigious winemaking regions. Nicki now lives in Barcelona and his dream is to become a Master of Wine, which he is studying towards now. Working with AmaWaterways has given him the platform to share his passion of fine wines, local delicacies and history in some of Europe’s most iconic regions.

Born in Belgrade, Serbia, Nikola G. holds a degree in Hotel and Tourism Management and started out as a tourist guide in 2004 and joined AmaWaterways three years later. He has a passionate love of travel and a strong desire to exceed guest expectations. When he isn’t working, Nikola enjoys spending time with his wife Maria and his Jack Russell Terrier, Ogi.

I come from the beautiful county of Croatia and joined the AmaFamily in 2019. My native language is Croatian, so I can speak with Croatians, Serbs and Bosnians, but I also speak the Czech language and have basics in German. When I am not on the river, I enjoy sailing or skiing. I encourage you to take at least one bike tour and hike and join a couple of wellness classes when you are on board.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Peter now lives in the Austrian Alps with his wife and two children, playing “Mr. Mum” when not cruising the European waterways. He enjoys skiing in winter and mountain biking in summer...when you live in the mountains you had better make the most of it. Leaving school to become a cook, Peter progressed into Resort Management entering the European tourism industry in 1992. In 2006 he joined a then small “one ship” company called AmaWaterways, and has remained a top rated cruise manager with AmaWaterways ever since.

A native of Brazil, Rachel has a background in International Relations and World Politics and has worked for several international organizations, such as the United Nations and the Red Cross. She has been traveling around the world since childhood and is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and conversant in German and Italian. Rachel loves to tell stories, read about world history, and has a true passion for dancing. When not working, Rachel can be found in southern Spain, where she now lives, running at the beach, sailing the Mediterranean or volunteering for local NGOs.

Although Raul is German, he grew up in Spain and became a Cruise Manager over 10 years ago at the early age of 21. He has since sailed on any and all rivers between Rotterdam and the Black Sea. When he is not cruising, he works as a travel photographer and takes pictures for hotels and resorts around the world. He is equally fluent in Spanish, German and English.

Reka P. was born in Hungary soon after the former Communist country re-opened its borders to the world. Eager to discover new horizons and to help other experience the magic of foreign travel, she worked as a tour leader for 14 years. After joining AmaWaterways, she found being a cruise manager was a perfect fit with her name – "Reka" means river in Hungarian. Knowledgeable about local history, cuisine and wildlife, she also holds a law degree and speaks Hungarian, English and German.

Rolf was born in The Netherlands and studied to become an Engineer before he realized that traveling was his passion. After completing a degree program at the University of Tourism, he started out as a tour manager, guiding travelers throughout Europe. Rolf is fluent in English, German and Dutch and has visited many countries. He now lives in Vienna, plays guitar and holds a private helicopter pilot license.

With more than 20 years of experience in the cruise industry, I have had the privilege of showcasing the mesmerizing wonders and treasures of the Nile River to travellers from around the globe. As a native Egyptian, I take great pride in ensuring every guest leaves with cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

As a Brit with proud Scottish origin, I am passionate about golf and international rugby. However, I have also lived in France for more than 20 years and have worked in travel (both on the ground and in the air) twice as long. I look forward to sharing my love of the French rivers with you – as well as the diverse gastronomy and delights of La Belle France!

From the city of Constanța where I was born to Bucharest where I live now, I have worked in the tourism industry for 29 years. I am a proud father of two boys and always happy to speak with our guests in Romanian, English or even French! I also love music and can often be found attending live concerts.

A former farmer and employee of the Africat Foundation, Stefan joined AmaWaterways in 2017. A Pretoria native who speaks both Afrikaans and English, he currently resides in Kasika, Namibia, along the beautiful Chobe River. When he’s not helping guests create lifelong memories during our Chobe River cruises, Stefan enjoys exploring nature, fishing and camping.

Talida C. studied political science at the University of Bucharest, but decided to work in a more positive environment, where she could put a smile on people's faces every day. This is how she started her career as a tour guide in her home country of Romania. After a few years of guiding, becoming a Cruise Manager was the natural next step for her. Her two greatest passions in life are traveling and food, which makes this her dream job. She is proficient in English, Spanish, French, and Italian, conversational in Portuguese and on a mission to learn either German or Dutch in the near future.

Born and raised in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi, I spent five years studying management of the tour guide business. I later joined the faculty of the tourism department at Hanoi Open University. Prior to joining AmaWaterways in 2011, I served as a tour guide and leader for a Vietnamese state-owned company where I became the proud recipient of the Good Citizen Award. When I’m not meeting guests from all over the world on board, I enjoy reading, biking and hiking as well as engaging in martial arts and tai chi.

Uwe (pronounced “oo-vuh”) was born near Dresden and studied civil engineering before deciding to make a career out of his favorite hobbies, traveling and hiking. Fluent in English and German and conversant in French and Russian, Uwe’s travel career began as a local guide in Cape Town, South Africa. A decade as a river cruise guide in Europe followed before the “warmhearted team spirit” of AmaWaterways enticed him to join us in 2008.

Veronika is a native of Prague, Czech Republic, where she graduated with a degree in Tourism in 2012. She worked as a local guide for 10 years and organized tours for various non-profit organizations. She is fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Czech and is also conversant in German. In her free time she listens to Brazilian music and likes to jog and roller skate, but traveling is by far her biggest passion. She lives in Frankfurt, Germany.

Growing up in the storied and diverse city of Budapest, I felt called to a career in tourism from an early age. With nearly 20 years of experience in the luxury cruise industry, I’ve sailed with over a dozen vessels across the AmaWaterways fleet. My favorite river is the Danube, although as a fluent German speaker I also love to sail the Moselle and the Rhine. Outside of traveling, I am a sports fan and a music lover!

I consider myself a positive and accommodating person with a curious mind who is always looking to learn something new. Through my mixed background, being born in British Hong Kong, growing up in Taiwan and moving to Austria at an early age, I find that one of my biggest strengths is being open to, and understanding of, cultural differences of people from all over the world. I also take a lot of pride in my professionalism as I believe that whatever you do, you should do to the best of your abilities. I am lucky as the combination of my personality and skills has allowed me to excel in my profession, which also allow me to meet new and interesting people every day.

Born and raised in the central highlands of Vietnam, I now live in Saigon. With a passion for travel, I started working as a guide in 2012. In 2018, I took a huge step in my career when I joined AmaWaterways aboard AmaDara. In my time here, I have met interesting people from all around the world and enjoyed learning about their fascinating stories and experiences. I love eating local foods, experiencing new cultures and learning history everywhere I travel with my family. When not onboard, I enjoy hiking, cycling and reading.
