Whenever I enjoy a glass of Riesling, my thoughts turn to my homeland of Germany, where some of the world’s best white wines are grown along the Rhine and Mosel Rivers.
The Rhine River Valley is a paradise for wine lovers, lined with steep, terraced vineyards and more fairytale castles than any other river valley in the world. Its name comes from a Celtic word that means “raging flow,” and its mighty force has carved deep gorges through the German landscape. The winding, meandering Mosel is equally lovely, with graceful scenery that is the polar opposite of the Rhine’s powerful beauty.
Our Vineyards of the Rhine & Mosel cruise provides a “tasting menu” of everything these renowned rivers have to offer. Offered on a limited number of departures aboard the AmaDolce, this cruise is now available for spring 2014 bookings.
Our first two sailings next year embark on March 24 and March 31, 2014. As savvy travelers know, spring can be an ideal time of year to visit Germany (a “secret” many would no doubt like to keep to themselves!). The crowds of summer tourists have yet to arrive, temperatures are mild and the landscape is bright with the fresh green buds of spring….no wonder it’s one of my favorite seasons!
This 7-night cruise from Luxembourg to Amsterdam (or reverse) stops at some charming towns and villages as well as “must see” ports of call:
- Bernkastel, a quaint town on the Mosel
- The fairytale village of Cochem, home to Reichsberg Castle
- Koblenz, an ancient Roman town where the Rhine and Mosel meet
- Mainz, a town with a museum devoted to Gutenberg and a delightful Old Town
- Heidelberg, one of Germany’s oldest university towns
- Romantic Rudesheim
- Cologne, with its enormous Gothic cathedral
- Heidelberg, where you can visit Germany’s most famous castle
Plus 3 days in Paris!
