- They are designed by the “Godfather of River Cruising,” our Co-Founder Rudi Schreiner
Prior to co-founding AmaWaterways, Rudi Schreiner had a passion for design that drew him to architecture. His love for river cruising started in 1975, when he designed his first river vessel, a research raft, which he sailed down the Amazon River. Having started the European river cruise operations for most major river cruise lines in the US, Rudi – and his carefully thought-out designs – are the main reason our fleet has earned numerous awards, including the “Highest Rated River Cruise Ships in Europe” from Insight Guides.
- The Luxury of Space
Our ships offer the luxury of space for an average of just 156 guests. We have some of the largest staterooms on the rivers. In fact, our extraordinary AmaMagna offers the largest and most luxurious suites on the Danube River (with full balconies) ranging from 355 sq. ft to 710 sq. ft. In addition, our open-air Sun Decks are expansive, with space for a walking track, pool or whirlpool (or both on AmaMagna), as well as a bar, sitting area and ample space for our host-led fitness classes as part of our complimentary Wellness Program.
- Multiple Dining Venues – Included in Your River Cruise Fare
Indulge in exquisite locally-sourced cuisine prepared by award-winning chefs for breakfast and lunch a la carte in The Main Restaurant or choose from diverse multi-course menus at dinner. Reserve one special evening at The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant. Enjoy a light lunch in the lounge or take your dish to the Sun Deck for fresh air and unobstructed views. For the ultimate culinary experience, join us on AmaMagna, featuring four unique restaurants.
- Our Signature Innovations Lead the Way
In 2006, we were the first river cruise line to offer a complimentary fleet of bicycles on board, and in 2010, we introduced our signature view-enhancing twin-balcony staterooms to the world. Two years later, we debuted our first-ever Chef’s Table specialty restaurant, the first venue of its kind on the rivers. When AmaMagna launched in 2019, she brought with her our first onboard cinema, outdoor spin bikes and juice bar. We will continue to listen to guest feedback and stay at the pulse of travel trends to innovate our ships and enhance our onboard experience.
- A Focus on Wellness
All of AmaWaterways’ ships featured amenities and venues that allow guests to enhance their best selves while on board. From the complimentary fleet of bicycles on board our European ships to the sun-deck walking tracks, heated swimming pool or whirlpool and onboard fitness rooms, guests are encouraged to stay active while traveling. AmaMagna debuted in 2019 with an expansive Zen Wellness Studio featuring state-of-the-art fitness equipment. In spring 2023, AmaMagna also unveiled the first full-sized pickleball court on the rivers, enabling players to play their favorite paddle sport while meeting fellow travelers for a little friendly competition on the Sun Deck.
- Commitment to Sustainability
To reduce our carbon footprint, our ships are designed with many eco-friendly elements, including LED lighting, solar heating and energy-reducing insulated windows. Featuring innovative fuel-reducing engines, AmaMagna is among 20 of our ships – including the first-ever river cruise ship to receive this honor, AmaKristina – that has received the prestigious Green Award for industry-leading safety, quality and environmental performance. In addition, new solar panels were installed on the roofs of the balconies on board AmaMagna in 2023, helping the ship reduce fuel consumption and use cleaner energy.
- Our Extraordinary Onboard Cruise Managers and Crew
Our ships themselves are wonderful floating boutique hotels, but they are made even more special because our guests are welcomed on board by the best crew in the industry. Our exceptionally genuine Cruise Managers and crew are passionate about what they do and always go above and beyond to ensure you have the most memorable experience.
8. Annual Refurbishments
Guests frequently ask us how often we update our ships. Each year during the winter dry dock period, our European ships undergo an annual rejuvenation where everything from interior carpets, to fresh coats of paint, to new fabrics and more are touched up or replaced to ensure every stateroom and welcoming public area is in perfect "ship-shape" condition prior to the start of their spring sailing season.
